What Makes PhoneBackr Tick
PhoneBackr uses beta TRYNT web services to identify probably geographical locations based on a user supplied telephone number. Since the underlying engine is "search" based we have a much higher rate of accuracy working with business telephone numbers.
The TRYNT web service first tries to identify possible "exact matches" for a given telephone number, if it fails it falls back to using NPA/NXX information to identify more general "area matches."
New! We've implemented another beta TRYNT api that provides related websites for any given telephone number. This additional API allows us to provide deeper "related" information for many telephone numbers.
The results provided by TRYNT include longitude and latitude which is perfect for tying to the Yahoo Maps API.
PhoneBackr was inspired by rmlabs: phone number geolocator (via Programmable Web), we liked the idea and wanted to see how far we could push it with "search" based data. PhoneBackr was also inspired the interesting "geographical identification" work being done by the GeoFeed team.

PhoneBackr is a "mash-up" that acts like a searchable reverse telephone directory, sometimes called the "Black Pages." In english this means if you give us a US based telephone number and we will try to return associated details, pretty nifty eh?
PhoneBackr is not a real reverse phone lookup service but rather a simulated one. We simulate reverse phone lookups through the use of a beta TRYNT web service. We fully expect your mileage to vary and we do not guarantee the results of this tool.
